Never content with the state of their vehicle, FCA USA LLC recently put out a software update to prevent any of their vehicles from being hacked. Models like the 2015 Chrysler 200 have been sharing so much time in the limelight that the company only thought it would be prudent to release more preventative cyber safety measures. We usually hear about cyber defense when in other fields, but FCA USA LLC understands that they need to set an example in the auto industry so that others can follow suit. Executives from the company have already come forward and issued a statement regarding the update:
“This software update is available to customers right now and can be downloaded to a USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ and installed in a vehicle. FCA will be contacting potentially affected customers with these details and has provided the software update to the FCA US dealer network for immediate customer installation.”
The entire operation wouldn’t have been possible without the dutiful contributions of WIRED magazine collaborators Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek. They’ve been very dedicated to their cause in trying to raise awareness of the seriousness of cybersecurity; “as part of their ongoing research in the area of automotive cybersecurity and have communicated with FCA about some aspects of their work,” said FCA USA LLC in a statement.
