The upcoming minivan from Chrysler engineers will boast a new power supply to make its hybrid engine possible.
Supplied by the minds at LG, this new technology will allow the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica to partially generate its own power while still using some gasoline as well.
“Our experience with entire battery packs, including cell design and manufacturing capability, as well as our expertise in vehicle integration, makes us the ideal battery supplier for the Pacifica Hybrid,” said Denise Gray, CEO of LG Chem Power, in a statement. “We believe our technical strengths, engineering and manufacturing expertise, position us as a leading battery and control system provider for electric vehicles today and in the future.”
This kind of cooperation between automakers and other companies is usually pretty common, but seldom do we see the product relying on a technology as important as a hybrid engine. Automakers are usually careful to create the hybrid powertrain in-house, which makes this alliance more significant than ever before.
FCA USA LLC is definitely one of the most motivated automakers to collaborate with emerging technologies, and what better mark to premiere the fruits of their labor than on their reinvented minivan, a segment that they themselves helped pioneer?
Rather than focusing on one specific aspect to ramp up more than ever, such as power with the new 2016 Dodge Charger, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica aims to cater to a wide range of audiences with its hybrid engine, Stow-n-Go seats and even a built-in vacuum cleaner. We look forward to hearing more about this upcoming model.
