Caring for Your Car in the Summer

Whether you drive one of the new Dodge cars in our inventory or an older vehicle made by another manufacturer, it’s important that you care for your automobile during the summer. Although summer is a great time to take a vacation and get away from it all, summer isn’t the time to take a break from tending to your car.

The first thing you should do to care for your automobile during the summer is test your battery. According to Director of Automotive Services for AAA Oregon/Idaho Steve Fox, heat is the leading cause of battery failure. It’s also the number one thing that can reduce the life of your battery. Because it’s even hotter during the summer, the season is the perfect time for you to have your battery tested to make sure it has enough life in it. While we recommend that everyone have their battery tested in the summer, it’s especially important for drivers whose car battery is three years-old or older.

Just like it’s critical for you to test your battery at this time of year, it’s also vital for you to monitor your tire pressure throughout the summer months. The air pressure in your tires fluctuates in concert with the temperature. If you don’t have the right amount of pressure in your tires, it’ll reduce your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Improperly inflated tires will also wear faster than they should, which will require you to replace them prematurely.

The smartest thing you can do to care for your automobile during the summer and every other season is to keep up with your vehicle’s routine maintenance schedule. If your car is due for some routine maintenance, make an appointment to bring it into our car service center near Long Beach, CA today. We look forward to seeing you at Champion Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM soon.
