FCA USA LLC revealed that they recently added a large number of 3-D printers to the Chrysler Technology Center.
The CTC, where some of the most innovative aspects of FCA USA LLC design come together, recently had a 3-D printer added to its repertoire.The 3-D printer has already helped streamline the construction of axles for vehicles like the 2015 Jeep® Cherokee. “Efficient axles are critical to our powertrain strategy,” says Jeffrey Lux, Vice President-Transmission Powertrain. “For the customer, they offer an economical way to improve total powertrain efficiency. Accordingly, we’ve introduced six new axle families since the foundation for FCA US was established in 2009.”
3-D printing technology is a huge boon because it helps make construction more efficient while also providing an opportunity for more workers to be involved and learn specialized skills.
“CTC is a key competitive advantage for FCA US,” says John Nigro, Vice President-Product Development. “We have more than 14,000 people under one roof, including 7,900 engineers. That speeds the collaborative process, which is the lifeblood of our business.”
